The headrails can be made to bunch to the left, the right, or to part from the centre bunching evenly to both sides. Also, they can be curved to fit exactly within a bow shaped bay, or ached for acrchways. They can even be made with extended hangers allowing them to slope with every louvre cut to a different length. Some manufacturers supply shaped louvres as well.

Aluminium vertical blinds are usually coated in a faux wood effect and are curved like venetian blinds (only wider) and the polyester material louvres come as woven or printed and from sheer to industrial (like mattress material) grade. They can also be treated with fire retardant or dirt/dust repellent.

As already mentioned, the vinyl louvres are mostly chosen for their opaque blackout  quality. They feature another benefit in that they are also wipe clean making them a practical choice over patio doors where young children and pets are present.

Designer or custom made vertical blinds are a very glamorous addition to any modern home and there are many more styles available now specifically designed with modern in mind. Wooden vertical blinds are fairly recent and complement wooden flooring perfectly. Although polyester fabric vertical blinds have been around since they were first invented, many are now designed especially for the modern vertical blind market with vibrant colors and patterns. Most manufactorer’s produce wide and narrow louvres and although the wider version is in no danger of being put out to pasture, the narrower louvres have always been considered to be the more elegant of the two. With wooden vertical blinds, there is no need for curtains as they are opaque, in fact curtains would probably look out of place. Valances are also optionally available for most designer vertical blinds adding that finishing touch.
